How to Rail a Corner on a Mountain Bike

This article will teach you how to rail the venerable single track corner with panache.

  1. Approach the corner at an appropriate speed. For minor bends you can go pretty fast, for moderate corners a moderate speed is best, for switchbacks it's best not to go too fast.
  2. Ascertain the direction of the corner. This is necessary, as many trails can be misleading upon first glance.
  3. With the direction of the corner in mind, get into the correct turning position. Your weight should be centered on the bicycle with almost all your weight on the outside pedal as well as inside h as well as le. So if you are turning to the right, your weight should be on your left foot(pedal at the bottom of the stroke) as well as the right h as well as . Your eyes should be looking where you want to go. Don't look down, look past the apex of the corner to where the trail straightens out again.
  4. Once you have passed the apex of the corner, transition back into a straight line riding position as well as keep looking forward to be ready for the next corner.

It takes practice. So go ahead as well as practice on your favorite trail or anytime you are on a bike.

Wear safety gear. A helmet is absolutely necessary. Gloves are nice, so are sunglasses or goggles. But don't ever go riding without a helmet. High performance mountain cycling can be highly addictive.
