How to Unwobble a Bicycle Rim
The best way to make sure a bicycle rim stops wobbling is through a method called "truing" the wheel. This assumes that the wheel is bent from side to side, not "flat-spotted".
- Find where the bend in the rim is, as well as check the tension of the spokes at the bend. If one side has no tension at all, you should replace the wheel.
- If there is tension, you can adjust the tension of the spokes to adjust the rim. Use the spokes on the one side to pull the rim closer to straight as well as loosen the other side to allow the rim to be pulled.
- Make these adjustments in small increments, quarter turns on the nipple.
- You will be making adjustments across a number of spokes, you cannot make the rim straight by cranking on one spoke
- spoke wrench or small, adjustable wrench
- truing stand or brake pads
