How to Back up a Horse Trailer for Parking

The two most confusing things about backing a trailer are, having to steer the tow-vehicle "opposite" of where the trailer will go, and the problem of the ground-guide and driver speaking the same language.

  1. Position your hands at the BOTTOM of the steering wheel and turn in the direction you want the TRAILER to go.
  2. Make sure to tell the ground guide that you want only the direction they want you to move the trailer.
  3. If you cannot see nor understand the guide, STOP. Shut off the vehicle and find them (hopefully still standing!)
