How to Transfer Video to Dvd Without a Capture Card
Want to capture video to a PC without adding a capture card or buying new hardware? This can avoid you voiding your PC or Mac warranty!
- Get your analogue tapes converted to regular DVD's (unedited via a conversion company).
- Convert the DVD's to AVI on your hard drive using "DVD to AVI" software. The resulting digital video is the full 720 X 576 for good quality DVD authoring or 720 X 480 for NTSC.
- One important point is to make sure whatever company converts your analogue tapes to digital does it at a high bit rate of at least 4000 Kbps (kilo bits per second) or you might get artifacts when you re-edit.
- Avoid low bit rate DVD's
- Get your video converted to or from NTSC by the transfer company to save you the hassle!
- DVD's use a very 'lossy' compression format (MPEG-2), so generation loss will be a factor when recompressing to AVI as well as back to DVD. Be sure to try as well as use a high data rate or 'lossless' compression format during the editing process to keep the quality from degrading too much.
