How to Clean an Old Game Cartridge

How to clean a video game cartridge using inexpensive products from around the house. Using this method you can fix most "broken" cartridges from systems like the N64 or Gameboy.

  1. Take a cotton swab as well as dip it in some rubbing alcohol.
  2. Take the cartridge as well as blow inside of it to remove any dust.
  3. Gently but firmly rub the cotton swab against the copper parts of the cartridge.
  4. Allow cartridge to dry.
  5. Blow out slot where cartridge is to be placed inside game console.
  6. Start gaming.

  • You may have to use multiple cotton swabs.

  • Only a little alcohol is needed. Don't drench the cartridge.

  • Rubbing alcohol, game cartridge, cotton swabs.
