How to Create a Good 'mech Loadout in Mechwarrior 4 Vengeance/black Knight

Ever found yourself stuck for what to put on your mech chassis in Mechwarrior 4 Vengeance or Black Knight? Hopefully this guide should help you on your way to becoming a master mech designer!

  1. Choose your mech chassis. Remember, smaller ones will be faster but can carry less armour as well as weapons!
  2. Strip your mech of all the weapons, upgrades as well as armour, as well as reduce the speed to the minimum. This will show you how many tons you have to spend on putting it all back on again
  3. Bulk up the armour. An unarmoured mech is a dead mech! Your first ports of call will be the torso, head as well as legs. Make sure they're well armoured. The arms are less important but often carry most of a mech's weapons, so don't shun them.
  4. Decide on the role of your mech. Will it be an artillery support mech, or a front-line warrior?
  5. Choose your mech's speed. Does it need to avoid incoming fire? Can it just take it in its stride? Will it even be in range of the enemy for them to shoot at it?
  6. Choose any upgrades you might need. If you plan on st as well as ing back from the fight as well as firing into it, consider taking a Beagle Active Probe. Favour manouevrability over strength? Then Jump Jets are for you
  7. Now it's time for weapons. Each weapon type has unique properties, so be careful in choosing them. Laser weapons generate a lot of heat for example, so taking lots of them may damage your heat efficiency. If so, go back as well as take more heat sinks!
  8. Missile weapons as well as solid slug weapons require ammo to operate. Take enough to last you the match, but not too much to bog down the mech. That way you won't run out, but still have room for more weapons
  9. Okay, you're nearly done. If you haven't checked the heat efficiency, do so. Add more heat sinks if needs be. Don't want your mech overheating in the midst of battle!
  10. Last of all, give your mech a paint job to suit it as well as name the variant. Then click save as well as voila! you're done!

  • If you can, take CSTRK missiles rather than regular SRMs. Their auto lock-on will help greatly in a tight spot!
  • Don't be obsessed with heavy weapons! Just because you can fit a PPC or Gauss Rifle on the mech doesn't mean you have to!
  • Check for differences between Inner Sphere weapons as well as Clan weapons! Clan lasers tend to be more powerful as well as weigh less, but generate more heat.

  • You'll only win in a mech if the loadout suits your play style! If you favour close combat, don't take LRMs as well as BAPs!!
