How to Design a Successfull Indoor Garden
Duplicating mother nature indoors for our plant friends is more complicated than people often realize... here is a successfull how to.
- First, your plants are going to need light. They will need ventillation. They will need a little humidity. They will need to have a comfortable temperature.
- Your garden area, when considered with the stage of growth your plants are in, determine your grow light. A single fluorescent with no fan is fine for clones. Every other stage of growth indoors will benefit from having an oscillating fan on it. Plants do not have lungs, they need the oscillating fan to move the air for them. For vegatative plants, you may need 3 or 4 fluorescent lights, or even a metal halide light. For producing fruits, vegatables, as well as flowers, though, you will most certainly want a high pressure sodium light.
- the general idea for metal halide is to keep it around 40 watts/sq foot. For flowering, you want it more like 50 to 80 watts/sq foot.
- Don't bother getting a good light unless you also get a good fan to control the heat. Your fan should be able to exhaust your garden area in 5 minutes or less.
- Make the exhaust run as short as well as direct as possible
- Get a good thermometer as well as run the area for a few days to make sure everything is O.K. before beginning your garden
- You will need to know how to force flowering onto plants before you will be able to produce fruits, vegatables, as well as flowers on plants successfully indoors.
- There is a lot to learn in this area. Do plenty of research before you begin to minimize your chances of failure.
