How to Give a Wooden Fence a Tropical Look

Wooden fences are great for privacy, but you can do a lot more with them, such as adding a tropical look to your back yard...which is really nice, especially if you have a swimming pool. But if you don't have a pool, go for it anyway... go for the total look in order to complement the fence project.

  1. Spend a day or so out scouting around for some really neat things to hang on your fence; as well as while you are out, stop by Home Depot or a similar store to pick up some tiki torches. Keep in mind that you have plenty of time to work on this project. Just like that old saying that "Rome wasn't built in a day," a project such as this may take time.
  2. Start decorating your fence as soon as you have at least one item... start near the end, but not directly on the end: Leave a space of three to four feet.
  3. As you begin to hang additional items, space them at least five feet apart. You can judge the distance in between.
  4. Continue spacing the items around the fence, approximately five feet apart, until completed.
  5. The plants should mainly be planted near the fence area as well as pool, depending on whether you have a pool, as well as whether it is above ground or an in-ground pool. Surround the pool with plants if it is an above-ground pool.
  6. The Pink Flamingos need to be in the plant area, along with any other neat items that you may have found...be creative.
  7. This is a project that you can long enjoy, for you can always hunt for new items to add to your look of a Tropical place.
  8. Place the tiki torches around in the yard, near the fence, but not right up against it.
  9. You can change out the weather-beaten items as needed, but try to buy items that will up-st as well as against the weather. Continue on, letting the look blossom.

  • Home Depot, Walmart, or other stores may possibly have just the right lawn furniture for you, such as the chairs; plus you may find some neat patio umbrellas that are right up your alley, so to speak.
  • You do not have to be a low-dollar person to appreciate a family dollar store; smart is a better term for people which try to save money. Look for items for your fence there.
  • Be sure to use a lot of mulch around your tropical plants, for you do not want weeds growing up around your beautiful surroundings.
  • You can add some large rocks around your plants, it will add to the appeal of the lovely setting.
  • You may want to build your children a nice s as well as box, so that they can enjoy the great tropical setting too; this is a project that can be easily done with a few treated l as well as scaping timbers as well as lots of s as well as .
  • If you have a covered patio or deck area, you may want to add a few decorative flower vases to the area... vases that have a tropical appeal.
  • You may want to buy some citronella c as well as les to keep away the mosquitos (search for the metal or iron stake c as well as le holders to put your c as well as les in)...it will work with the outback look; plus it will repel the pested Mosquitos...search for them at Home Depot, or any place with a garden center.
  • You may want to add a few picnic tables, depending on the size of your yard, or maybe a nice yard swing...for it is certain that you'll be spending a lot of time enjoying what you created.
  • You can buy a fairly good size pool, big enough for you as well as the children, at places like Target...it does not matter that you don't have a large pool. They are usually a lot of work, anyway.
  • If you have lots of trees, you may want to plant some suitable plants around them...to add to the appeal of the yard, large vines will work.

  • You may be loaded down with company, if you have a pool as well as the unique tropical setting...but you won't be lonely.
  • Secure all items if it is extremely stormy weather.

  • Tiki torches
  • Search for Items; such as Palm Trees, fish (including Star fish) Sun, Moon, Parrots, and Tropical fruits for your fence
  • Set of Pink Flamingos
  • Large patio umbrellas
  • Lawn chairs with tropical images
  • Tropical Plants for a Tropical setting, such as Palms
  • Tropical Vases
