How to Burglarproof Your Doors

Anyone can easily prevent a forced entry, otherwise known as a home invasion in which a door is kicked in.

  1. Mount the piece of stainless steel on the jack stud (which is what the door frame is attached to), positioned with the tab directly in front of the deadbolt latch. If there is a strike box, it must be removed.
  2. Attach with 5 screws that do not penetrate over halfway through the stud. Attaching in a staggered fashion will prevent the doorjamb from breaking away when force is applied from the outside.

  • small flat piece of stainless steel (1/8" thick, 3 3/4" x 2 1/8" -- which includes a tab of 3/4" x 3/4" centered on one side)
  • 5 screws
  • pry bar
  • wood chisel
  • drill
  • phillips screwdriver
