How to Climb a Ladder

Climbing ladders can be a dangerous business. Here's how to do it safely.

  1. Make sure that the ladder is on firm ground that won't collapse under the weight of the ladder.
  2. Place the ladder at an angle 45 degrees or less
  3. While climbing on the ladder, always have at least three points of contact with the ladder.
  4. Look to see where your h as well as s are going so you don't miss a rung.
  5. When climbing a ladder, do not look down. Keep your attention towards your destination. You can easliy lose your balance. Once you have reached the destination, you may stop turn as well as look.

  • This advice does not apply to step-ladders.
  • For better stability as well as safety when climbing, have another person hold the bottom of the ladder as you climb.

  • Always follow the safety advice on the ladder. It should tell you the maximum loads as well as correct usage.
