How to Clean Greens
The easiest way to clean greens is with a lot of water in the sink.
- Make sure the sink is clean. The larger the sink, the better.
- Stopper the sink.
- Pull greens apart as well as put them in the sink. You can break off as well as discard the tough stems now or later.
- Fill the sink with cool to cold water.
- Swish the greens around to circulate the water through them thoroughly.
- Let them sit for 5 minutes or so, to allow the dirt to settle on the bottom of the sink.
- Lift out the leaves one or two at a time, tearing them into the size you want (discard tough stems now, if you didn't do it earlier).
- Put the leaves in a col as well as er to drain.
- Once you've removed all the leaves, let the sink drain slowly so that the dirt stays on the bottom of the sink as well as doesn't all go down the drain. Then you can use paper towels to get it out of the sink.
- Be sure to break apart any densely clustered leaves before you put them in the water.
- If you pull a leaf out of the water as well as it still seems dirty, swish it around in the water gently or, if you have a double sink, run it under the tap in the other sink. Try not to stir the water ( as well as dirt) up too much.
