How to Appear Smart at School(Girls Only)

  1. Wear your hair at a medium or short style. Long haired girls are sometimes percieved as less intelligent. Medium hair enhances the appearence of intelligence. Short hair makes you seem more ambitious. If you insist on long hair, put it into one long braid or put it in a neat bun.
  2. If you are blonde you can dye your hair brown, red or black. You can also just make it a little more reddish or a darker. If you really like your blonde hair you can just use shampoo for red-heads or brunnettes which, while it won't make your hair red or brown, it will tone it down a little, but it won't be dull. In fact, red head shampoo will make it a little richer. You can also add low lights which will also add volume and make you seem a little smarter. You can also just leave your hair your natural color and just not listen to those who have a problem with it. If are a brunnette, red head or have raven hair, don't bleach your hair blonde. Bottle blondes are percieved less intelligent than natural blonds.
  3. If your hair is medium length, you can neatly braid it or put it in a neat looking bun. No matter what length, you should make sure its clean and neat. If you are going to braid it, braid it the previous night. Whatever your style, make sure it doesn't take too long to do.
  4. Dress in an intelligent looking way. T-shirts with the names of musueams on them, shirts with stuff like "Use Your Brain" on them, plain and tailored looking pants, knee-length and above the knee skirts and clean, neat, clean-cut and sensible shoes are all nice. Imitating school uniforms and the clothing of corporate executives also looks nice, but don't do it every day. You can wear mostly what you want but try to avoid mini-skirts, dirty or sloppy clothing, tube tops, belly shirts, a lot of cleavagee, pants that show your underwear or butt crack, brand logos, high heels, nike sneakers and fishnets.
  5. Make up should be clean and not excessive or elaborate. No glitter or shine. Imitate the makeup of women in power who look like you. For example, if you are Black, try to do the same makeup as Condi Rice regardless of how you feel about her policies or the Bush Administration. You can also get inspiration off fashion websites that address makeup for working women, and only use makeup in that section. If you don't want to do any of this, then here is a universal makeup scheme: natural looking eyeshadow, one coat of black or brown mascara, red lipstick that suits your coloring and clear nail polish. Make sure your makeup doesn't take too long to do. Nails should always be at the length of a well groomed boy and you can have any color you want but make sure its a solid one. Keep your eyebrows neat if you want to. You don't have to wear any makeup if you don't want to.
  6. If you need glasses then you should wear them instead of contacts. Glasses sometimes make people seem more intelligent, especially rectangle and rounded frames. Keep them clean. If you have perfect eyesight you don't have to but you can get glasses frames and none perscription lenses in them.
  7. Things to always carry: a practical backpack of reasonable size, a good book to read, an address book to put your friends phone numbers in, notebooks for your various needs, some pencils with good erasers, some ball point pens, a hand held manual pencil sharpener that doesn't need to be used over a trash bag, some good erasers, some good eraser caps and a planner.
  8. Work on your vocabulary. Read good books, read a few random pages in the dictionary daily and take vocabulary tests in the readers digest.
  9. Get good grades. Study hard. Do your homework. You can start your homework in studyhall or while riding the bus home from school. Try to recreate the environment during tests at home while studying. A great time to study is during studyhall. You can study with friends too.
  10. Speak mostly about intelligent things like current events, interesting facts, funny and inspiring quotes, good books and movies, scientific studies and interesting inventions. Accept others opinions about contreversial
  11. Read good books. They will make you both appear and actually be smarter and reading really is fun. Keep your reading diverse by reading books of all genres including non-fiction. Make sure the books are interesting.
  12. Be informed. Watch the news; preferably an unbiased news network. Read the newspaper and news magazines. Read scientific and academic journals. Read cool facts pages, but make sure those facts are real. Read inspiring and funny quotes.
  13. Increase your intelligence in general. Listen to classical music sometimes, its ok to listen to rock, punk metal, pop, rap ect. but you should listen to classical sometimes. Play math games. Play Cranium. Learn a second language, preferably a useful one like Spanish or French. Do this regardless of whether you think that people coming to the US should learn English because learning a second language stimulates brain cell growth and you probably will eventually go to a non-English speaking country. If you are bi-lingual, learn a third language. A forth if trilingual. You can never learn too many languages. But try to learn them one at a time.
  14. Get organized. Get a notebooks just to write down your homework assignments and write down the due date. Get a weekly planner with your class scedual and plan your activities. Get a monthly calender to write down birthdays and big events. Write down what classes you have, when to do homework and what your homework is, dates, when you are hanging out with friends ect in your planner. Create a to-do list for the day in the morning. Write down your goals in your journal. Get an address book to keep your friends' and boy/girlfriend's phone numbers, addresses, email addresses, IMs ect.
  15. Behave well in class. Don't talk during class, don't be rude to the teacher, take notes, don't be rude to your peers and don't pass notes. You can correct the teacher and you can disagree with the teacher but be polite. Save talking for during lunch with your friends.
  16. Be nice to people. They may call you a nerd, a freak, a geek, a racial or homophobic slur but you are better than them so don't return thier rudeness. If it gets hard, remember that you will probably be very successful and you can ignore them at your high-school reunion. Make sure to report any rumors, insults involving race, gender orientation, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or disability or physical violence. Especially physical violence. You should also report sexual harrassment and any time someone else is hurt. Stand up for people who are getting bullied, even if you might start getting bullied. Never insult anyone, gossip or hurt someone physically. Don't make offensive jokes. Bullying can cause depression and depression can affect your grades.
  17. Be friends with nice people who don't bully others or gossip. It will boost your self esteem and your confidence, make you less likely to be teased, prevent depression, help you study harder, make your life happier and otherwise enrich your life. You can also make studying fun with your friends
  18. Don't drink, do drugs or smoke. Alcohol reduces your mental capacity if you are a kid or a teenager. Hard drugs reduce your mental capacity and ruin your body. Even though marijuana might not harm you; it can be laced with all sorts of crap like PCP also known as angel dust. Smoking is bad for your lungs and is addictive so it can be a strain on your finances.
