How to Apply Artsy Eyeliner
The whole idea here is about using your imagination to create artistic eye makeup. Take something you fancy - and run with it.
- Pick something you fancy. Whether it be a color, a shape, your grandmother's cat, anything that you like and find appealing.
- Break it down in your imagination. Look at the colors and shapes, textures and shadows. Notice why you picked the color or feature in the first place.
- Examine your blank canvas ready to be created upon. Check out the general look of your eyes. Are they almond shaped, do they go back into your head, are they far apart? Features like these are what you will be playing off on your imaginative canvas. Your assets and liabilities, depending on how you see it.
- Focus on the features of your eyes. Notice where the key points are and how they are shaped. For example, your eye crease - how close is it to your eyebrow, is it sloping severely or is it a subtle dip and how far back does it appear?
- Now that you know your canvas, get your tools. The proper tools help significantly. Use your own fingers also, for the bigger stuff. Look for soft brushes and, of course, for eyeliner and eyeshadow . Use an angled brush for liners and eyebrows; and a few pointed brushes or the spongy things that makeup compacts come with for detailed work. Also a very fine-tipped brush works wonders for multiple applications.
- Do the foundation first.
- Replicate the color or feature of the item you picked in your imagining exercise above. For instance. say I chose green: I'd apply a base color of green crease. Then I'd line my eye with a dark green but only from the middle area outwards. Just to be playful, I'd then add a bright or a sparkly green near the point close to my nose. Lastly, a soft green highlight just below the brow to lighten things up.
- Make sure it's all blended.
- Curl and lacquer. Pick the kind of mascara you like best for the occasion, whether it be dark or feathery and try to match it in to your scheme as well.
- Decide whether you want to match your outfit or stand out. It makes a big difference, but go strong either way you choose.
- TRY not to look like a clown. think about how subtle you want to be and remember it when applying. If you mess up, it's better to wash it off and start afresh than to cake more layers on.
