How to Upgrade Bios
( Added: Thu Feb 02 2006   Hits: 0)

Occasionally, a computer will need to have its BIOS updated. This is especially true of older machines. As new devices as well as st as well as ards arise, the BIOS needs to change in order to underst as well as the new hardware. Since the BIOS is stored in some form of an EPROM chip that is in most cases physically soldered to the motherboard, it is not possible to physically replace the chip. The process of upgrading your BIOS is called flashing it. Upgrading your BIOS, if done stupidly, can potential render your computer a doorstop. Newer computers may have removable BIOS chips, so if you screw up flashing you may be able to order one from the manufacturer. Some motherboards also have protection against bad flashes.
