How to Clean out My Sump Pit
( Added: Thu Feb 02 2006   Hits: 0)

I have purchased a home that has a sump pump. I filled it to check the pump. It ran fine, but I noticed as I poured water into the pit it turned black as well as gave off an odor that reminded me of diesel! As it drained down the bottom had about a 2" layer of black mud that smelled very foul. It also seemed that there was a layer of stone beyond that. I was wondering if this is normal. I had been told it might be from the washer draining into it? Is it okay to drain a washer into the sump? Should there be some kind of filter prior to draining into sump? What can I do to clean out sump pit as well as what do I fill it in with? Should I use stone, s as well as , or charcoal? Please help if you can.

How to Clean Windows With Unremovable Storm Glass & Screens
( Added: Thu Feb 02 2006   Hits: 0)

I live in an apartment with double glass (storm windows) on each window. The windows do not come apart as well as the screens are not removable. I cannot get at all of the glass as well as I cannot get at any of the lower outside panel because of the screen. I don't think these windows have ever been washed as well as they are getting very gross.

I want to know how to build a brick foundation wall across the garage door opening on top of the concrete slab as well as how to construct the piers on top of the concrete floor to support floor joist. I am looking to match the existing floor elevation of the rest of the house. I also need to know how to blow insulation into the existing sheet rock walls as well as ceiling. In addition, I want to know how to create a door opening in the wall between the den as well as garage space. Finally, how to I figure out how large a second heat pump would need to be for the area that I have.

How to Drill Through a Thick Brick Fireplace & Install a Fan for Air Intake
( Added: Thu Feb 02 2006   Hits: 0)

I have a used blower system with the pipes built into the wood holder. The fan will be mounted outside, but I am not sure what is in the thick walls of the brick chimney near the bottom. Can I use a coring tool of some kind? The flexible metal pipe is quite tough as well as 2.5 inches in diameter. The fan motor gets hot when I have used it inside to see if it works. I plan to replace the cord to see if that is the issue. It will be outside, however so it should run cooler. Thank you.
